A Study of Cellular Immunity on the Change of Helper/Inducer and Suppressor/Cytotoxic T Cell of Peripheral Blood in Patients with Gastric Cancer

Abstract
The cellular immunity of gastric cancer patients is depressed as well known. And many authors reported that t lymphocyte of peripheral blood decreased in advanced gastric cancer. To evaluate the status of cellular immunity in gastric cancer
patients, we
examed the change of helper/inducer T cell and suppressor/cytotoxic T cell of peripheral blood using monoclonal antibodies in 49 cases of gastric cancer patients and 20 cases of adult healthy subjects as control in Chung-Ang University Hospital.
@ES The results obtained were summarized as follows:
@EN 1) the percentage of T4 cell was significantly decreased in the preoperative patients, especially in the stage III and IV compared with that of control subjects. The percentage of T4 cell was decreased in the postoperative patients compared
with
that of control subjects and preoperatvie patients.
2) The percentage of T6 cells was increased in the preoperative and postoperative patients, especially in the stage III and IV compared with that of control subjects. The percentage of T8 was decreased in the postoperative patients compared
with
that
of preoperative patient.
3) the ratio of T4/T8 cell was significantly decreased in the preoperative and postoperative patients, especially in the stage III and IV compared with that of control subjects. The ratio of T4/T8 cell had no significantly correlation between
the
preoperative and postoperative patients.
On the basis of this results, it can be suggested that cellular immunodepression in gastric cancer patients is due to decreased T4 cell and increased T8 cell, thus the estimation of T4/T8 ratio is useful immune parameter for evaluation of
cellular
immunity in gastric cancer patients.
